Every year, the Swan Island Dahlias in Canby, Oregon, holds a festival when the flowers are all blooming. On the last weekend of August and the first weekend of September, the farm is alive with live music, a variety of food vendors, and bazillions of dahlias to view, photograph and purchase. Opening day this year was Saturday, August 27th, and I was there, along with a few other people, to welcome the beginning of the 2016 Dahlia Festival. The weather cooperated with a pleasant temperature (unlike the recent high 90s), a nice little breeze was blowing, and the skies were brilliantly blue.
The festival continues this weekend over the Labor Day holiday: 10 am – 6 PM, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. If you’re in the area, it’s worth a stop, just to see the huge variety of dahlias – all the colors, shapes, sizes – and if you can’t make it to the festival, the farm itself is open seven days a week until the end of September.
All photos were taken by me with my iPhone 6s.
Dahlias remind me of my grandmother’s garden. Thanks for the beautiful pictures.
You’re very welcome, Barbara!

So beautiful, Cyndi – I wanted to sit out there at the farm for a week 😀
Wow whee, Lois. What a feast for the heart and eyes, thanks for the gorgeous photos! That is flower power, for sure.
Aren’t dahlias the best flowers ever? So many shapes and colors and sizes! Incredible!
